Does Head Start Really Work?

Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Sylvia Burwell, proclaims “YES!” Vice President of Corporate Governance for Natural Gas Company, Questar, Rey Butcher, proclaims “YES!” President of the Ford Foundation, Darren Walker, proclaims “YES!” Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez proclaims “YES!” All of these Head Start supporters know that Head Start indeed works in providing brighter futures for at-risk children because they themselves are Head Start alumni, Head Start graduates, Head Start success stories, Head Start proof! These successful citizens are an inspiring window into the impressive 32 million Head Start alumni who bolster our United States economy today. Head Start was established in 1965 to educate America’s most vulnerable children living in poverty. Secretary Burwell invites the nation to build upon Head Start’s fiftieth anniversary celebration by taking up the cause for the at-risk children in today’s American landscape. Join our nation’s movement to change the future. Fifty years from now the wee little preschoolers who we educate today, will be the leaders of our community tomorrow. CEOs LOVE Early Childhood Education!

The CEOs of Business Roundtable, who collectively manage $7.4 trillion in annual revenues and employ more than 16 million people in the United States, support high quality early childhood education programs. Edward B. Rust, Jr., Chairman & CEO of State Farm Insurance Companies, supports investing in programs like Orange Children & Parents Together, saying “It’s a simple choice: Pay now or pay more later.” This CEO, along with many others, understands that children involved in programs like OCPT are more likely to graduate from high school, decrease crime on the street, earn higher wages, and bolster the economy. The Business Roundtable encourages policy makers to expand and strengthen educational programs for infants and toddlers ages 0 to 2. Orange Children & Parents Together provides this kind of comprehensive learning model through our Early Head Start and Head Start Home Based learning programs for infants and toddlers ages 0 to 3. Further reading of the Business Roundtable’s proposals for policy makers can be enjoyed here.
